Between the Shelves is a contemporary dance performance inspired by the ritual of bedtime stories — the soft voices, dim lights, and narratives that once guided us gently into sleep.
Drawing from personal memories and shared cultural references, five dancers from an international cast move between languages, bodies, and stories passed down to quiet the night. These bedtime tales, once soothing and protective, are revisited and reshaped through movement. Rather than retelling them, the performers question the values they carried: ideas of right and wrong, obedience and compliance, limitation and possibility.
The work unfolds in an intimate atmosphere, where gestures emerge quietly and patiently, like stories slipping out of books and into the body. Through play, repetition, and collective listening, the dancers reconnect with their inner child — not to recreate innocence, but to explore curiosity, defiance, imagination, and choice.
Between the Shelves invites the audience into a shared space between wakefulness and sleep, where stories no longer end but linger — gathering in breath, rhythm, and movement — asking what we keep, what we unlearn, and what we dare to live beyond the page.
