The Northwest of La Palma is a walker’s paradise, with its idyllic countryside and sleepy villages. On this guided six-kilometre walk, we'll take the Dream Paths route, starting from the charming village of Las Tricias. Follow ancient stone tracks, past flower-filled meadows, orange groves and secluded farmhouses hardly touched by time. Learn all about the Guanches, the original inhabitants of the island and stop to admire a group of thousand year old dragon trees.

The walk starts at the traditional village of Las Tricias. Lovely colonial style stone buildings with pitched roofs and wooden balconies huddle together on the edge of the Izcagua Gorge. We'll stop for a snack of toasted almonds before crossing the steep, pine-studded Izcagua Gorge. From here we'll visit a Gofio mill set on a promontory from which you can see the whole north-west coast (Gofio is the local flour made from grinding toasted cereals such as maize or wheat). We'll continue past a grove of 1,000-year old dragon trees – the blood red sap of these twisty-trunked specimens is said to have magical properties.

Soon we'll come to the Caves of Buracas. These mysterious caves were inhabited by the original inhabitants of La Palma, the Benahories. Step inside and admire the mysterious carvings in the shape of spirals. Some are thought to be over 2000 years old.
